Transplant

I have two red tip photinias that I need to move. I’ve had them two years, and they are 8′ tall, not real bushy. What is the best time of year to move them?

While they transplant very easily, yours are somewhat large, so this can make the task a little trickier. The best time to do this would be between the end of October and the beginning of February, during dormancy. Dig the soil from around the plants about 18″ from the trunk to about a spades depth. Dig a hole twice the size of the root ball and deep enough to accommodate each plant. Cut the shrubs back about 1/3 before moving and water well.
