Q.Toxic growth in mulch

Zone 92646 | Anonymous added on August 26, 2020 | Answered

Hello,
You posted an image on this page of a mushroom or fungus that can grow in mulch. Can you tell me what the first picture is of? I have something growing in my newly spread mulch and my dog almost died because she carried these around for a few days before I realized it was not large pieces of mulch she found, but actually something growing out of my mulch. It appears to be the same object as in the photo I have uploaded.

Thank you for any help you can offer. My dog almost died due to liver failure and I am trying to file a claim with the store where I purchased the mulch in hopes that they will help with abatement of the mulch.

I believe that is a wood chip in the center of the photo. The white particles are the mold or fungus that the photo is showcasing. Is that what you have in your mulch? I've seen that in mine, but only after it has been on the ground for several months.
