Top Heavy Crepe Myrtle

We planted a young crepe myrtle 3 summers ago, one of the new red varieties, maybe ‘firecracker?’. Last year and this year it is blooming heavily — so heavily that the small branches will not support the blooms and with the least bit of rain, it bends so much that we are afraid it will break the branches. Plus, of course, it is not attractive bending almost to the ground. Last year we tried to tie it up, but that just doesn’t work, as most of the branches are involved. Should we prune the blooms off, now, or just dig it up and try something else?
