Q.Tomatoes Splitting With Drip System

Anonymous added on August 22, 2011 | Answered

I have a drip system and each tomato plant is watered separately for 30 minutes every morning at 6 am, and I’m still having a problem with them splitting. I’m located in central Ohio. Can this be caused by 90 degree weather?

Heavy rainfall, even for short periods, is normally the culprit for splitting tomatoes on a drip system. There are also some varieties that have thin skins and some of the fruit will split regardless. If you get rainfall, cut back on the drip system to help even the water out further.
