Gardening Know How Questions & Answers -

The skin of my tomatoes are splitting. The stems and leaves a green without obvious issues. This is happening on all varieties: beefsteak, roma, grape. All are planted in containers with organic potting mix designed for vegetables. I amended the mix with tomato fertilizer and I use a fertilizer designed for vegetables. I have no clue what is causing this. Also, is it safe to eat the fruit that have split?
Thank you for your help.

Uneven watering can cause this. If the soil is allowed to dry out and then heavily watered through irrigation or rain, skin splitting may occur. Try to keep the soil evenly moist – easier said than done!
