Q.Tiger Lily

Zone 48030 Michigan | lalat719 added on August 22, 2022 | Answered

I am in Michigan. I am moving in a few weeks. I want to bring my brood of Tiger Lilies (they’ve moved with me 4 times already, this will be # 5).. with me, but it is late summer and I do not know where I want to plant them at this new house. Rather than quickly planting them somewhere without thought, I want to know: Can I over winter them without being in the soil? Is there a proper method for this? Please and Thank you in Advance Laura

You can, definitely, overwinter them outside of the soil. The caveat would be that the living growth needs to die back or be close to it before you dig them up.

Some of them may survive the process if you grab much more than you intend to keep.

Another thing to consider would be to grow them in container until you find a place for them.
