Unfortunately, allowing jade roots to dry to the point of allowing the soil to pull away from the sides of the container leads to root tip damage. As long as it does not "dry completely" to that point, then it can be just fine. However, letting it dry to the point of pulling away from the sides of the container causes very noticeable damage.
