tangerine tree and drought

i just moved into my house a little over a year ago. we have two tangerine trees that produced fruit last summer, but this spring we had a major drought. I watered them a couple of times a week, but I do not have an irrigation system available yet. The rain has caught up to normal levels, but the trees have lost all their leaves and budding fruit. the main question I have is, will they return to normal now that the rains have returned or will they most likely be dead?

You should check the health of the branches to see if they are still alive.
Bend them; do they snap off and break?
Do a scratch test. Live bark should be white or light green under the bark.
If the tree is still alive, it may recover.
