I moved into a home that had an avid gardener as a previous homeowner. I am hesitant to weed out several plants because I fear they are unique and not weeds. These plants are clustered in an area in semi shade. They are next to a columbine plant. Is it a late summer bloomer or fall?
I'm not able to identify the plant. The leaf structure is not enough for an id.
You can take image or sample to your County Extension Office for an id.
This link will help you find the nearest office.
I went to rip this up but it has a pretty solid base almost like a tree.
That sure looks like a hydrangea macrophylla. Pulling won't work; you need to dig it out. As a shrub, it has a well-developed root system. Either a long-handled shovel or a spading fork would be my tool of choice. If you dislike it because it doesn't bloom, know that it is easy to make the mistake of cutting down next year's flower canes. They look like dead leaf stems so it is an understandable mistake. (check images online of hydrangea in winter) Hydrangea have unique pruning rules and those dead-looking stems are leaves and flowers for the coming year.
See attached photos. Also wondering what the best method to kill them without harming the grass
We have put our heads together here at Gardening Know How and have not been able to make an id.
This does appear to be a tree, shrub or plant that is reseeding into your yard.
Check the neighborhood and see if you can identify the culprit. Wind or birds could be moving these seeds to your yard.
Also you can take a sample or these images to your County Extension Office.
They may have an answer of what is reseeding in your exact area. They may also be interested in a plant or tree that could become invasive.
My wife thinks that it’s called “ Mile a minute” Please see attached pic

I sowed some beetroot seeds a few months ago in the same bed as some carrots. I moved the carrots when they both needed thinning out and are doing well, however there is a plant growing fast and tall and I don't know what it is. It doesnt look like carrots or beetroot, I think it might be a weed taking up space but it's in a perfect row so I'm not sure. Pics attached. Any help appreciated
Yes, it looks like you have some Lambsquarters in there. This weed is easy to remove by pulling it out.

Pervasive root network with many secondary plants growing from them. Some roots are the diameter of a wrist. Thanks
We have put our heads together here at Gardening Know How and think we are seeing your plant as Ligustrum ovalifolium or Green Privet.

Some of the weeds make good ground coverage, so i want to keep them, but I want to make sure its a good one. Not too demanding or over aggressive when it comes to sharing ground and flowers
