All states have a state Extension Service run by the land grant or agricultural university. Their websites have lots of valuable information that is specific to your state. Here is the website for New Mexico: https://aces.nmsu.edu/pubs/_circulars/CR457/welcome.html
I would love to start a fall garden, if it is not too late but I am unsure of the zone I live in
This information is available with a google search, which states that your area is zone 7 or 8 depending on your zipcode. You can type "What USDA zone is XXXXX (zipcode)" and it will show you, or you can use our map, which can be found here: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/planting-zones/usda-planting-zone-map.htm
When you discuss a particular plant or tree, it would be helpful if you could discuss or label the plant or tree where it grows best. I love poppies but I'm in north Houston and usually can't grow poppies. I do like how you tell whether it is a "sun" or "partial shade" plants. Helps me. Love your information regarding planting information, etc. Regards, Martha Wilson
Thanks for the tip! I will pass it along. We do have some articles that are specifically by USDA planting zone. For example, evergreen plants for zone 6 or zone 7.

One of the articles I read was about fall planting in zone 5 in Wisconsin. I live in CT, zones 5 & 6. Does planting in the Fall differ from state to state regardless of similar zones or no?
Hello. The USDA says the zone map is based on the "average annual minimum winter temperature, divided into 10-degree F zones." The hardiness zones can be the same from one state to another. Let us know if you need more help with this. https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/planting-zones/usda-planting-zone-map.htm
