April 11, 2021Q.Perennial ID?
This is an image of a certain type of a perennial I can't ID. It pops up in spring. The foliage is bushy, round and grows on stems. It grows a bud in the center that I think blooms red. We bought a home that had a massive native wildflower garden in Wisconsin. It's been almost 3 years and I still can't figure out what is? I live in SE Wisconsin if that helps in identify?

Certified ExpertA.I believe it is Standing Cypress (Ipomopsis rubra), a hummingbird-attracting plant. It gets tall but stays roundish and puts out little trumpet shaped red flowers near the top. It is biennial so only puts out foliage the first year. The next year it blooms. It is native to Wisconsin as well as the eastern half of the U.S.
