Is it possible to grow a staghorn fern in the ground?
Possible yes, but they don't do well in the ground. They are epiphytic plants and their roots need air to do well. Plus, they don't take any kind of water logging well. I have seen them survive ok in soil filled containers, but they had to be able to dry out completely between waterings. In the ground, it would be difficult to provide that kind of enviroment.
These were given to me but, unfortunately, they were dropped off and left in pretty much direct sun for a few days. Is there any way to save them by cutting off dead leaves, etc.
Give them a shaded location to try to recover.
You will just have to wait and see, especially since it was a few days.
Best of luck.

When planting a staghorn fern, can you use any moss? I have a staghorn fern and not sure what moss to use.
Sphagnum moss is typically used. For more information on the care of staghorn ferns, please visit the following link:

Happy gardening!
Our adopted fern just broke from the chain where its hung for over 10 years. The plant is 4-5' and weighs well well over 100 lbs. We will never get it back in the tree. Is there another way we can keep it? I feel it should be off the ground, so will a wagon or wheel barrel work?
Hanging in a basket is really the best growing location for a Staghorn.
It is way to large to attach to a board.
I would try to get it hung back up if at all possible and use a heavier chain.
A hardware store can cut chains to the desired length and can help you with the gauge that you would need for the appropriate weight.

I have a beautiful stag fern, which is about 20 years old and is extremely large and heavy (which now falls from the fence where it is planted). How do I re-tie the plant so that it is secure onto the backing board which I can then secure to the fence. Some sort of hanging basket under the plant?
You can put nails into the mounting board in a circular pattern that is approx the diameter of the plants roots. Make sure they have a head on the nail and that they are pounded into the board at least an inch.
Place the fern onto the board and wrap with plenty of damp moss. Now take garden twine and began wrapping the root and moss ball using the nails to anchor the fern to the board. Continue wrapping until it feels secure.
I have seen a plastic crate used. Cut in half and secured with wire to hang from a ceiling. The Fern is nested into the crate and wrapped with moss covering all of the crate. (you want to disguise the plastic crate).

If these antlers are cut off, will they regrow?
A Staghorn will produce little pups or off shoots. These can be divided off and propagated.
