18017Q.Dead Branches On Scotch Broom Plant
I have a very large, mature scotch broom plant that is currently in bloom, however there are several large branches on the back of it that look dead. If I cut them, there will be a huge hole in the plant so I’m not sure if I should just let it go?

Certified ExpertA.Correcting will take a few years, since pruning must be done very slowly over time. This is achievable, but it is much easier to do annual pruning as the plants ages from young to mature.

Certified ExpertA.Try cutting it down by half and continue to water. Hopefully it will send up new, green shoots. However, if you see any new buds forming, do not trim but continue to water.
