GKH is primarily a site devoted to home gardeners and gardening rather than commercial operations. I can suggest that you research, and communicate with, companies that specialize in roof gardens in cities around the world, especially in climates similar to yours. Also, learn all that you can about horticulture from your local sources, such as https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/garden-how-to/beneficial/insect-pollination-process.htm
How do I insulate my rooftop containers so plants live year round? I am trying to grow plant material in Chicago on my roof that will live through the winter weather and winds. Thank you.
Make sure your selecting plants that are hardy to your growing zone. Perennials will go dormant during the winter months and
it's a good idea to offer more protection during this time if they are vulnerable to the elements.
Here is a couple of great articles that will help you get your plants ready for next winter.

How deep does the soil need to be for a rooftop garden? I'm just doing some research for a book I'm trying to write. I don't have a green thumb. I've been known to kill cactus. The story includes a rooftop garden, and I'm trying to figure out about what kind of dimensions I will be working with.

I’m planning to build a simple planter box to put outside my window (on the Kitchen roof). I have concerns about how the water will drain out as it will surely drip through the box on to the roof. I have a drain pipe at the edge of the roof very close to where the planter box will sit. I’ve attached a picture of the roof, the green outline represents where the planter will sit and the blue represents where the drain pipe runs. Any tips on how to manage the drainage of the water would be much appreciated.
I think a trip to the home improvement store might prove effective. Look for a lightweight drip liner with three sides and a dip to put against the edge near the rain gutter. Much like a large dish draining liner. Then set your container on that. You also may be able to fashion a liner using pond liner and gravel.
