Hi there! How do I know when my radishes are ready to be harvested? I planted the seeds June 24, it's now August 6. They have greens, but I don't know what's doing underground. They are in an elevated container, if that is helpful to know. Thanks!!
You may need to gently pull one up to see but, oftentimes, the bulb will begin protruding from the ground and is ready to harvest when it's about an inch or so in diameter. Here is more information: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/edible/vegetables/radish/harvest-radishes.htm
would vermiculite help if mixed with a goo d compost mix thank you.

I planted seeds a few weeks ago. I live in Fla. It's been unseasonably warm. I have beautiful top growth with NO radish bulbs on the bottom?? What can I do to get radish bulbs ? Thanks, Ava
This can, often, be due to a lack of phosphorus in the soil, as well as too much nitrogen. If you do not believe this to be the case, then it could simply need a pH adjustment. Putting dolomitic lime in the soil will help buffer the pH close to 7, so that the plants are able to take up the potassium better.
There are a few other things that it could be and this article will explain things in more detail: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/edible/vegetables/radish/radish-does-not-form-bulbs.htm
What kind of drainage material should I use in the planter under the potting soil?
I have two personal preferences- My first being what is called growstone. This is a fluffed recycled silica glass material, and is one of the best options.
My second preference is expanded clay pellets. These are a very good dranage material as well.
Perlite would also work just fine as well. as would gravel that was WELL washed off.
Why can't I get radishes to grow properly? They form a long skinny root and don't form the bulb!!

I am a high school student doing an investigation to see the effects of static magnetic fields on radish seed germination. My investigation showed that the seeds germinate faster in the presence of an electromagnetic field and I was wondering if you had any reasons or articles that would support this finding? Thanks!
A google search revealed these articles, and more! Enjoy your science learning.
