How do you take care of purslane? I bought some plants from a garden center. What do you have to do to take care of it? And could you leave them in the pot or do you have to plant them in the ground?
It is a pretty easy plant to care for. It can stay in pots, like full sun and water it when the top of the soil is dry. That is about it. It does not need to be fertilized.
Can you please tell me why rio purslane closes up so early in the day? Mine are planted in full sun. Right now mine are closing around 2 pm. It has been an extremely hot summer. Would this be a reason for the early closure of flowers? I really love the colors. They are so brilliant. I shall look foreward for your answer.
Yes, this would be the reason for the flowers closing. The plant's main objective is to produce seeds. In order to do this, it must protect its flowers. So, in many plants, the flowers will close in extreme heat and during rain to protect the pollen inside.
I wondered when the best time is to plant my seeds? I am in Goulburn, NSW.
The ideal time to plant purslane seed is after the last frost of spring. For more information on the care of purslane, please visit the following link:

Happy gardening!
For years I have grown Portulaca (Rose Moss). Is it the same or different? I noticed a plant growing in and around my driveway that looks like Purslane. Could it be from the Rose Moss seed dropping and is it edible?
Rose Moss and Portulaca Grandiflora are one and the same. Without a photograph, I am unable to tell you if the plant you are seeing in your driveway is Purslane (Portulaca Oleracea). Purslane is known as a prolific self seeder. Here is an article on the culinary aspects of purslane that may interest you:

Happy gardening!
I'm trying to grow purslane from seeds and not succeeding. The seedlings are really small, don't seem to be growing at all and eventually they tilt and die. Despite the fact I have over 40 plants in my house, I can't grow this weed! It is very frustrating. Am I putting too much water? Should the seedlings be placed under the sun or not? I can't believe I can't grow this weed that Monsanto can't kill. What am I doing wrong? Please advise. I am very frustrated. Thank you!
Direct sowing outdoors will likely be more successful.

Can a pot of purslane survive indoors over the winter? The purslane has been in a hanging pot outdoors.
I have eaten wild Purslane. I purchased "Cupcake Carrot" Purslane from Wall Mart... can it be eaten as well as wild Purslane?
I can't find any information that the variety Cupcake Carrot is edible.
