Poison ivy in garden... need to kill so my grandchildren can play outside in my lower yard.

Will this damage tree roots? We have a large white pine tree with a lot of poison ivy under it. I've tried pulling it and have gotten poison ivy rashes that required medical attention. Can we spray an herbicide at the weed and not damage tree roots? We also have a lot of trees in the back of our property and we have tried pulling both poison ivy and sumac without success. If we spray the area to clear weeds, are we stressing the 20 some established trees?

Herbicides are generally not very effective on poison ivy and the risk to your trees is a concern.
A professional application may be needed.

Does it help protect from getting a rash, to wet down poison ivy before pulling?
Unfortunately, not. The only way to protect yourself is to cover up - long sleeves, gloves, etc. This article should help: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/plant-problems/weeds/poison-ivy-control.htm

Happy gardening!
What is a way I can remove poison ivy before it's growing everywhere? I've heard that pouring boiling water on the roots will kill it. Is that correct?

Can I spray for poison ivy that has grown in my pampas grass in the early season when the grass is just sprouting or can I spray in there at all without losing my pampas grass?
The best way to remove Poison Ivy is to pull the plant up.
The roots go deep on this weed, so it is difficult to get all of it.
Any chemical that you use will also kill the Pampas Grass.

I have hedges surrounding my home. Within those hedges are poison ivy. How do I get rid of the ivy without ruining the hedges?
The best solution I've found is to very carefully pull up as many plants as you can while wearing gloves and placing them directly into a garbage bag. If a plant is too big to pull up, then cut it off at the base and kill the stump with either boiling water or a dab of herbicide.
