I have had a problem in Merritt Island Florida since the freeze last winter. Could you give me advise on the best type of palm tree that would be cold tolerant? I need something rather tall.
Try looking at a Pindo Palm Tree or a Windmill Palm Tree. Both are cold hardy and grow rather tall.
Are palm scales something that can spread to healthy houseplants?
It is possible that they can spread. You should isolate the infected plant until it is recovered.
What is causing brown leaves on my palms on 25th floor terrace? Sometimes very windy.
Generally, brown leaves are normal, a sign of old, mature fronds and can be easily snipped off. However, with your windy conditions, you may want to check the soil moisture, as your plant may be experiencing overly dry conditions brought about by the wind. If possible, you may want to move the plant where it is well protected from the wind.
I live in New Jersey and bought a couple of palm tree shrubs in April at Home Depot. They were wrapped in paper. Since it was still cold at night, I left them in my garage for a month or two. I planted them outside in June and they grew very well. Last week I transplanted them into pots and put them in my garage. Should I wrap them in paper, or what should I do to have any chance they will live through the winter so I can plant them outside again next summer?
If they're in your garage, they do not require wrapping, but why not consider bringing and growing your palms indoors for the winter (or even year round). Here is an article that you may find helpful: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/houseplants/palms/growing-palms-indoors.htm
Straw and burlap together are great for wrapping and insulating plants. Once temperatures start to get around 50-45F, you can go ahead and wrap the palms. They should be entering dormancy by then.
Are red palm branches good for planting? What precautions do they need? Somebody says they will not grow? If so, what is the reason?
If you mean can you propagate Red Palms from a branch, it would depend on where the branch came from and how big it is. You can try placing your cutting in damp sandy soil and see if it will root. Keep the soil damp (though not soaked).
I was wondering if you could advise me on how to save my dying palm tree. I have had it for a few months and kept forgetting to water it. I then noticed the leaves were looking dead, so I have tried hard to remember to water it but just about every leaf is dead. I have just noticed that the plant pot it was in was filled with water, so I actually think I have drowned the plant. (The plant sits at the bottom of my stairs at my front door. This is why I keep forgetting about it. )
I really hope you can suggest something which can help me save my plant.
I would first empty out the excess water and then allow the soil to dry out some. Depending on how long it's been sitting in the water, you may need to check the roots for signs of rotting. This article will help with that: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/plant-problems/disease/treating-root-rot-gardening-tips-for-housplants.htm
For future reference, water the palm only when the top of the soil feels dry to the touch.
