When and how do you prune Osmanthus shrubs for good hedging?
Your should prune Osmanthus in early spring. This is when there will be new growth and you can shape the plant to your desired hedge shape.
You can do pruning with pruning shears or hedge clippers and simply shape the shrubs to the shape you would like.
I read the article, "Osmanthus Bush Uses: Fragrant Tea Olive Cultivation And Care" By Jackie Carroll. Where in NZ I could buy this edible flower? Thank you. Regards, Alicia
I would try Ebay, they can be a good source of unusual or difficult to find plants.
Make sure you check the sellers ratings to make sure you are purchasing from a reliable seller.
How low a temperature can osmanthus tolerate? This is a north Florida...Ocala area question.
Unfortunately, there is much conflicting information about this subject. It would seem that if they are not used to cold then they don't handle freezing temperatures very well, but it they are occasionally exposed to cool temps while they are younger then they tend to tolerate it a little more.
Some cultivars can handle below freezing down into the upper twenties, while others can barely handle frost.
