Nandina thankyou
Thank you.Its been a long time in bud, only just opening it’s flower.
Could someone please help me identify what this is? Someone told me it was bamboo, but I've never seen any bamboo that looks like this. I would like to plant it, but not if it's bamboo and will spread like crazy. I live on the Oregon Coast. Thank you for any help you might be able to provide.
It looks like Nandina domestica, whose common name is heavenly bamboo. And, no, it is not a bamboo. They tend to colonize, though, by seed and expanding roots.

I have begun doing my daughters garden.Found a shrub/climber that I have not seen before. Can anyone identify it for me. Thanks
That appears to be Nandina domestica. Here is an article that will help:

I've tried several different plants. Need something that will overwinter (mild) and take late afternoon sun.
Boxwood and holly are broadleaf evergreens that like sun. 'Sunshine' ligustrum is hardy and stays yellow/chartreuse year round.

Could you specifically tell me what kind of growing conditions nandina likes. Do you have a picture to send? Can it be used in fresh floral arrangements?
I will include a couple of articles so you can see different photos. Heavenly bamboo can be invasive; the berries propagate easily so you soon have several shrubs. (By the way the berries are poisonous to birds.) The dwarf varieties are well behaved and don't produce the berries. You can cut off sprigs to use in fresh arrangements.

I was just reading about heavenly bamboo. It is a suckering plant and the berries can kill birds. Why is it on your website as a desirable plant?
We present the good and the bad about plants. Some traits of heavenly bamboo are attractive to people. Others avoid it because of its invasiveness and poisonous berries.
