They will be readily visible when they are ripe. You won't have to cut the pod open, as they fall out of the pores on the outside, and are clearly visible before doing so.

All Magnolias share similar reproductive organs, so you can expect this with any cultivar.

That is one of many wood rotting fungi. They may or may not fruit, but it will be hard to pin exactly what it is at this time.

It will likely result in the death of the tree. An Arborist will be able to offer assistance with removing the tree, and treating the area.

This might be a difficult problem to treat. I would coat all plants that are not yet infected with neem oil so that they will remain pest free. As far as dealing with the Magnolia... Winter may kill most of them, and you can start fresh by using rosemary oil in water to water with. The tree will take this up and scale bugs will find the tree toxic to consume. If the infection does not subside this winter, then cutting the tree down may be the best option.

The sap is from the insect damage and can be washed off. All trees should be sprayed with neem oil to protect them from future infestation. I would also apply the rosemary water to these as well.

This sounds like you may have a Scale infestation.

This tree is relatively free of disease and pests, though Scale pests have been known to attack.
Your yard seems quite shady and this tree thrives best in full sun but will tolerate partial shade, 4-6 hours of sunlight.

Sudden death of a tree sometimes can't be explained. It's doubtful the small green still growing from the truck would sustain this size tree.
I would look for a replacement.

It will be very hard to say which type it is by the fruit alone.

It looks like it was just plucked before it is ready. All Magnolia have red seeds in their cones.

Once you do fine a ripe seed, you can germinate it somewhat easily, though.

That was one he found on the ground so maybe it fell too soon. I've only see the red fruit so I thought this may be from a magnolia I haven't seen before. Thx :)
