Can dry lima beans bought from a grocery store be used for seeds?
It is possible to grow bagged, store-bought dry beans (not those purchased from cans). Soak them in water for a few hours and then sprout them in a jar with a wet paper towel before planting them. I have planted Fordhook lima beans for 2 years and cannot yield any beans. They will bloom like crazy but will not produce any beans. I'm not sure what's going on with them but would like to know what I could try to get them to yield beans. Any suggestions?
This is a pollination problem. Without pollination, the blooms cannot produce beans. These articles will help: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/garden-how-to/beneficial/insect-pollination-process.htm

I have some baby lima beans planted in my garden. I have harvested one crop from them. They have stopped producing any pods. There are lots of flowers on the plants but it's not doing anything. Will it start producing again or should pull up the plants and start over by replanting?

How late can I plant bush lima beans? Can I fertilize with miracle-gro when planting? If so, how should I apply it? I was told 2 rototill soil and just put the seed in the ground about 2 in with finger and don't cover with dirt so that the plant can come up out of the ground easily. Any thoughts?

I live in northern Delaware. What is causing my pole lima beans to not set fruit? I have 2 rows 40' long and 5' between rows and 3' between plants trellised to 6'. The vines are thriving but I see very few pods. Around 99.9% of the flower stalks are without fruit. The only pests I've seen are a few green stink bugs. I'm not having problems with fruit production on my tomatoes, peppers, sun flowers, or adjacent row of string beans. HELP!!

Happy gardening!
For the last 2 years, we have trouble finding fordhook lima beans (frozen) in the store. No fresh ones at market either. Is there a shortage? Do you know why? When we do find them, they are very expensive. They are one of my kids' favorite vegetables. I need at least $10.00 worth for just one meal. Thanks.
Talk to the fresh produce manager and see if they can special order the beans for you.
If you shop at local Farmers Markets you may also find growers that would love to find out customer requests.
We know of no shortage.
