Last year I had beautiful blooms on my lilac bushes, but this year nothing at all. The plant itself seems fine, but no buds.
A lack of phosphorus in the soil is one of the most common reasons. This article will provide additional causes: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/shrubs/lilac/lilac-bush-not-blooming.htm
I have six lilac bushes in a row. Every other bush is light lavender and the opposite bushes are a dark purple. The light lavender bushes are in full bloom, but there's not a bud to be found on the dark purple bushes. Can you explain?
Most likely they have slightly different nutrient needs. I would recommend giving the area a little more phosphorus. It won't hurt the light colored ones and will help encourage the darker ones to bloom.
I have a yellow lilac that continues to grow and seems very healthy but has never bloomed. It was planted about 3 years ago.

Can I cut the grass short and till the leftover grass into the area I'm turning into a bed? Then plant my bushes (lilacs and forsythia) and then put mulch over the whole bed? The info I read says options are: to cut the grass/sod out; smother it, poison it, but not what to do after it is smothered. Thank you.
Yes, you can till it under then plant or you can just simply plant and mulch heavily. Both will work.
I have a Miss Kim lilac bush that did not bloom at all this year. It was planted by a landscaper in the late summer two years ago. Last year it bloomed. I did not prune it at all last year; however, I did snip some of the flowers to bring indoors. There was not a single bloom this year. The bush looks healthy. There are no signs of insect damage and there is a lot of new leaf growth this season. It's in a spot that gets at least 5-6 hours of sun every day. I'd like to know what, if anything, I can do this year to promote blossoming next year. And, will I be able to tell this year if there are buds forming, or will I just have to wait until next spring to see if the bush will bloom?
I have three lilac bushes in my yard. Two are purple and one white. I've had one purple for about 7 or 8 years and it has never had a blossom. The white one I have had for about 5 years and it too has never had a blossom. The other purple I've only had for 3 years and began blossoming the second year I had it and has more blooms every year. What is wrong with my two older bushes? Why won't they bloom?
I am going to plant 2 lilac bushes in my yard on a small sloped hill. What other plants may be planted with lilacs and what would be an appealing landscape plan?
