what am I doing or not doing that is making my hydrangea look so bad. With winter just around the corner I want to plant it in the ground while I can. I live in southern Pa.

How do I get green hydrangeas? My daughter had green hydrangeas in HDR wedding bouquet and I want to replicate that for her anniversary in April.
Actually, all hydrangea flowers are green! The sepals will often turn colors such as white, pink, and blue, but will always start, and end green. There is a variety that is called Limelight, that will bloom later, and retain its green for longer. This would be where I would start.
Here is an article to help explain what causes the green flower, and how you can keep it green: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/shrubs/hydrangea/green-hydrangea-blooms.htm
When do you cut back hydrangeas?
This depends on the type of hydrangea that you have. Different cultivars require pruning at different times. This article will help: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/shrubs/hydrangea/prune-hydrangea-bushes-hydrangea-pruning-instructions.htm
This depends on what type of hydrangea you have. If you don't still have the plant tag, you can search internet images for hydrangeas or try this website for hydrangea ID: https://plantaddicts.com/types-of-hydrangeas/
Once you know the variety, go here, https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/shrubs/hydrangea/prune-hydrangea-bushes-hydrangea-pruning-instructions.htm
If you end up mystified, don't prune this year. Next year you'll be able to tell if the hydrangea blooms on new wood or last years wood. Warning: hydrangea branches may look dead but still be OK so proceed with caution when pruning if it blooms on old wood.
I got some hydrangea in fall. They are only supposed to get 2 feet high. We planted them in October and we had our first frost last night. 11/10. They are now completely wilted. Will they come back?
It would have been better to plant them in spring. If they are cold tolerant variety, then they have a chance. Once they die back, it would be a good idea to mulch them. Here is an article for more information.
I have 3 Hydrangea plants that just won’t bloom. 2 get full afternoon sun, 1 gets sun until 12:00. All are in good soil. I’ve tried cutting them back in the fall as well as no pruning what so ever? (I know some bllom on old wood, some bloom only on new growth) All 3 were given to us by a friend who had no luck with them as well. We have other Hydrangeas in our gardens. They bloom.
The best article on this that I have seen is here: https://plantaddicts.com/why-wont-my-hydrangeas-bloom/
How do I know what kind of hydrangea I have? I re dived mine for Mother’s Day about 7 years ago and it bloomed that year and partially the next year and that was it. I planted it at the corner of my house and mulch it every year. I pruned it it one time the first year it was planted but it has never bloomed since. I bought some bone meal to add to the soil around it but I am not sure what kind it was so I don’t know how to prune it. When it was blooming it had big beautiful deep pink blooms on it. The pictures were taken today after frost has already killed off most of the leaves. Thank you for any help you can give me.
More than likely you have a large leaf hydrangea. These are notorious for being unreliable bloomers. They bloom on old wood, and if this dies off in the winter back to the ground then it won't bloom. Hello, I brought my hortensias inside during winter now and have a growing lamp with blue lights over it for a few hours during the day. somehow after a few days, one of them started to look unhealthy with dropping leaves. I don't know if it is too cold in the room approx. 12degrees centigrade or is it too much water or too little. the other one on the other hand still looks good but losing its leaves and some of them are becoming yellow. Please advise me what to do. thanks Selly
I would say the the issue lies in over-watering. This is what it appears to be. It is best to water after the top of the soil is dry. Here is an article for more information: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/shrubs/hydrangea/hydrangea-container-care.htm
