We just moved into a new home and these blue hibiscus (Alyogyne huegelii) are planted in our courtyard. They are very tall and lanky, although in my research on them it looks like they eventually become bushy. Should I be cutting these back? And if so how? From the top? I'm a novice gardener and don't want to screw it up! Lovely flowers....
They aren't a hibiscus but are related. Here is how to prune them:

Summer temps reach 110°, winter temps as low as 30°.
Since you are in zone 9, you should be able to grow tropical hibiscus year round and will bloom most of the time. You can also grow hardy hibiscus, but it won't bloom year round.

We are on short trip and by the time we are home..our hibiscus is infected badly..please suggest
That is a severe scale infection! Unfortunately, a complete pruning will be the only thing to remove an infestation of this severity.
Once you prune the infestation away, you can treat with an insecticide. Here are some article that will help:

Hello - I planted several hibiscus near my young, 6 ft tall little gem magnolia trees. They look droopy now and not filling in with leaves like I would expect them to in the spring. Are the hibiscus sucking all the water from them? Should I not plant hibiscus near a magnolia tree? What can I plant at the base of these trees in the flower bed?
Hibiscus are very nutrient hungry. As long as you are feeding them several times per year, then they can grow next to a Magnolia just fine. Unfortunately, your photo did not come through, so I am unable to see the damage. Without seeing the damage in question, it would be difficult to help correct the issue until I know exactly what is causing it.
In the meantime, these articles will help you to grow each plant:

Hello - I’m seeking some guidance about hibiscus plants next to little gem magnolia trees. My magnolias are loosing leaves (although they are growing buds to flower right now). I am concerned the hibiscus are sucking all the water and nutrients away from my magnolias. If that’s not the case, how do I get my magnolias to grow more leaves and ‘fill in’? Thanks! (I already posted this but didn’t include a picture. Reposting with a photo for clarity.)
Hello. Thank you for the photos. My original diagnosis still stands, though the pictures help. Please refer to the original question and answer for a suggestions on resolving the issues. Thank you!
Hi I have a hibiscus plant I'm wondering how much should I cut off still I just trimmed it today. The first picture is how it looked before I pruned it.
Your plant is looking good. You may want to give it a little more shape by taking the longest stems down a bit, but don't cut more than one third of the plant away, and leave a few nodes on the branches so that new leaves can grow from them. Here's our article for some tips:
