Can I move a blooming plant that was planted too close another.

August 18, 2018A.Yes, you can move hibiscus but now is not a good time. No matter how careful you are some of the roots will be damaged to both. That makes surviving summer heat difficult and the stress will likely cause the shrub to stop blooming. If you live in an area with above freezing temps for most of winter, fall is a good time to move shrubs. In the northern part of US, spring is a better time.

I have enjoyed my blue hibiscus for 11 years . Last year I had lots of flowers but few leaves, this year it is totally bare. I live in upstate N.Y. we have had a very wet year. Is it possible it is dormant as it started getting leaves early spring and then weather got extreme.

August 28, 2018A.Check the branches. Do they bend or snap off? If they have died off, they sill snap off.
Excess moisture can be an issue, especially if the soil does not drain well.
The leaf drop is likely due to stress, and whether the shrub can recover will take time. You may need to wait it out until next spring.
Pull back any mulch and check the soil moisture.

September 26, 2018A.You can spray the bulk of the whitefly infestation with water. Then follow up with an insecticide treatment; insecticidal soap or other. If it's just one plant you can find a ready-to-use pre-mix like this to make it easy. Or if more plants you can order a concentrate and mix according to directions in a sprayer.
