    there is tone of stuff you could grow like sage, basil, cucumbers, are all easy seeds oregano, and mint need yto be misted when watered because the seeds are so small but they are very easy once you get them going. Fore larger seeds you could use the paper towel method try googling that. I also like flower bulbs. You cold try newgardener.com to.

    It sounds like there is algae on the soil. It is not harmful but it does indicate that there may be too much moisture in the soil. You should reduce slightly the amount of water the plants are getting.

    As long as it will retain heat well and get plenty of sunlight, this should not be a big problem. Just make sure to adequately ventilate it so that it doesn't get to hot or moist inside, which could ultimately burn plants or lead to fungal issues.
