I have a dessert grape that has bee neglected and recently pruned back and retied to new framework. My friendly neighbour garden did the work and suggested the grape may have a disease and he showed me a cut stem with a stain, bluish purple going brown. Is he right?
Yes. This can be treated, easily with wettable sulfur and dolomitic lime. This will take out the infection, and repair the soil pH after this is done.
My grapevine leafs are being eaten by something. Have asked the Ag people but no answer.
Treat skeletonizer pests with a commercial spray that contains spinosad.
Does anyone know what causes our young grape clusters to turn to what I call "skeleton"? They just start to develop and then they are gone almost overnight. Very frustrating. Is this is disease or a bug? We have tried spraying numerous products with no luck. Nothing visible on the leafs and leafs are not affected by this, just the grape clusters.
This is quite strange. This is more than likely some animal or bug that is taking your fruit. Can you include a photo? This can help me to see what is going on.
I have an ~4 year old Thompson seedless grape vine growing in an area on which I want to build a raised bed for vegetable gardening. I’ve had the vine in this location for 3 years, and this is the first year it has shown active growth. I intend to keep the vine in this raised bed and use drip irrigation to control the amount of water needed by plant type. The bed will be 15” high and filled with 12” of soil and compost. Which of these would be the best option: 1. Try to completely dig up the roots and immediately transplant the vine after the box is built. 2. Build the box around the vine, prune to 12” from the current bottom and fill in the soil around it (i.e. bury the current bottom 12” of vine. I live in the NW corner of the San Fernando Valley, CA, USDA hardiness zone 9b, heat zone 8. Temperature this week has averaged 90 deg. F.

Building the box around the plant certainly is an option.
I bought two Saint Theresa grape plants from Burpees and the branches never budded, but after 4 weeks new shoots came up from the roots. Then, I bought two more from Stark brothers whose branches were already in leaf and when I planted them they continued to grow and flourish. My question is this, are the shoots coming up from the Burpee roots the same plant as that which is growing from the Stark Brother branches? I ask this because I wonder about grafting.
Since most grapevines sold today are grafted stock you right in your concerns.
This link has a great overview of bud growth due to winter kill.
I also would contact the seller, as most reputable sellers will guarantee plants for 1 year.
I donnot know name of vine.....looks similar to grape vine. leaves are curling and turning brown.....water comes out from bottom of vine reddish color and smells rancid......could this be root rot?
I would repot and replace the soil with a good quality commercial potting mix.
branches are dropping off my grape vines. It is as though they are pruning themselves. Vines are about 18 years old and this is the first time I have seen this.
This could be happening because of borer damage. This article may help
