How do you winter over geraniums?

They were ok before we planted them outdoors 2 weeks ago.
Normally, this is either caused by too little water or too much water when it comes to geraniums. They should not be in water logged soil, but the soil should also not be bone dry.

My overwintered geranium has long leggy stems spilling over the container a great deal. How do I successfully prune the plant at this stage?

My geraniums are kept in a sunroom in pots during the winter months. The room eventually becomes too hot for them, so I take them outside in their pots and place them around the yard. They do wonderfully in the sunroom all winter but when placed outside they do not do as well. Any suggestions?
The plants need to be properly acclimate first. Place them in an area with bright, indirect light for several days before allowing them to sit in the sun. They will usually exhibit some leaf yellowing and dropping as they adapt to the new surrounding but this should cease on its own.

Must cranesbill geraniums be deadheaded to rebloom?
Cranesbill is self cleaning. Be aware though that subsequent blooming won't be as heavy as the first.
Two hanging baskets of red geraniums are not producing any new flowers. I have fertilized once with Miracle Gro Bloom Booster. Foliage is lush and has new growth. These plastic baskets are well-drained (hole in bottom) and hang on the porch, so have now set them in the sun for a couple days hoping this helps. My other geraniums (pink and white) are in coconut 'straw' baskets and they are doing fairly well on the patio.
Geraniums won't bloom well if they are over fertilized or in too much shade. Moving them to a sunnier location should help.
How do you care for Martha Washington geraniums?
The care for these exceptionally lovely geraniums is just the same as for the more plain varieties of geraniums. They love heat and sun and should be kept a little on the dry side.
You can overwinter them as well so that you can enjoy them again next year. This article has more information:
