I have a gardenia growing under a live oak. It is very low to the ground, looking more like ground cover. We bought this house 3 years ago and it was there. I doesn't get any taller and blooms faithfully. I'm curious about what type it is.
That can be very hard to tell... Your local extension service may be able to help. This link will let you find the closest one to you: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/extension-search
There are many names of Miniature Gardenia and they are marketed as dwarf plants or ground cover.
They grow 6 to 12 inches tall and will spread 24 to 36 inches.
Partial to full sun and organic, well drained locations.
Water weekly or more in warm weather.
Lovely plant and I am jealous!
I live in Tampa, Florida and planted two gardenia bushes (lollypop, top part grafted onto the base) planted in full sun four years ago. For the last three years, each plant has produced multiple buds throughout April and May with each bud producing a beautifully developed white flower. However, each flower wilted and turned brown within 24 hours. Is this normal/natural. I've read that gardenia flowers can last weeks. If so, then I'm doing something wrong. Help?
You may need to move your plant to a morning sun and afternoon location.
Water your gardenia regularly and fertilizer two or three times a year. One application is normally scheduled around February (South Florida) and another in October (South Florida). A third fertilizer application may be made during the summer.
Can gardenias survive in pots in a semi shady position? Thank you.
Container Gardenias need bright light and filtered shade with no direct sunlight.

I would use Neem Oil. It's organic and safe for people, pets and Bees.

Just moved in to house 3 years ago we have mature gardenia plants that I want to prune down to a more manageable height, and move them to a location where we can enjoy the fragrance and beauty.

My gardenia is so beautiful, usually this time of year? It's outside. Mostly shaded. While this year had a beautiful profusion of blooms, within 2 days of each bloom they turned yellowish and with another 2 Days yellow blooms fell off. No fingus or aphids that I can see. Any ideas as to what caused this? Leaves are thick and green.
