I am in Virginia and ready to put in a new flower garden for next year. I want something that will last all the seasons. Can you suggest plants/design for me? I have a 8 x 8x 12 plot that will be mostly sunny.
There are many questions to be answered for your garden design!
Soil conditions, shrubs, perennials, color choices and so much more.
Start by making a list of some of your favorite plants.

How to change existing terraced veggie gardens to some form of keyhole or permaculture? I have 3 terraced beds, about 8x5, going down a hillside facing south in Boulder, CO. They are baked by the sun all 4 seasons. For years they were double dug with added compost but have become more compacted and less productive. I have used wood blocks to step on so as not to add to the problem. I can no longer maintain it as is (74 female with bad shoulder). Could perhaps get help for this fall yet before freezing, though. Also, I have high winter winds.
Keyhole gardening is an excellent way to garden and the vegetables and plants are so easy to reach.

My garden and surrounding gardens are in a very flat area. My partner and I are looking at options for creating something different and I am in favor sinking part of the lawn by about 12 inches to create a garden with different levels. The land does not become waterlogged when it's wet, but my partner is concerned that it will become waterlogged when sunken, or even a small swimming pool if I do. Do you have any suggestions. Thanks, Gavin
Here is an excellent article to help you get started with your landscape project.

I have access to bundles of newspapers, and would like to use them to form the structure of raised beds. I see, however, in your response to composting newspapers, that closed bundles would mold. Would this same thing occur if one side was exposed to air?
Yes, it likely would be the same effect.

I would like to install a mirror over the sparse growth side of this wall (to the left of the topiary). The mirror would not be installed directly onto the wall, but onto wooden blocks. These would be then installed on the wall by moving aside the stems of the creeping fig. All in all, there would be about a 2" gap between the cinder block wall and the back of the mirror. The installation would not impede the growth of the plant. The concern that I have is that I would be blocking the stems from sunlight. Do the stems need sunlight? The foliage would not be covered. Please see photos.
No, the stems don't need sunlight, so your plan should work fine as long as the leaves aren't covered.
Using up large space on a large side yard corner lot - 60ft long X 20ft wide. I want to plant Sioux crepe myrtles down center (5) and use soft touch hollies with rose creek abelia in bed. Just don't know how to arrange the hollies and abelias. Any ideas?
Soft touch hollies and rose creek abelia are both small shrubs that can be kept in a rounded shape. They should look very nice arranged together. How about alternating them one by one on each side of the bed?
Are there other names to describe "writing with bedding plants"? Do you have any companies that you could recommend that can create a company log bedding plant in SW Florida? I am having trouble finding good examples online for a project. Thank you, Angelo
Try 'carpet bedding design'.
You can check with local garden designers or landscaping companies. They can generally help with this type of landscape project.
