grows all year round in south fl, getting pretty big, how do I thin
Run your fingers through the fountain grass like you run your hands through hair. As you do that, prune the blades close to the ground (about 6 to 8") to thin out the plant in the spring.
Our fountain grass is taking over the garden. How do I split it to give to friends?

I have red fountain grass that goes dormant, I prune 6-8" inches high in February and it comes back well in the spring. Also have this (attached photo) white fountain grass (photo taken on Feb 3) that appears in full bloom. Is there any need to prune since it is not going dormant? Thanks
It can help to prune out the bloom clusters once they die off, but there isn't much of a need to prune out anything that isn't dead. If you do want to prune to make it fill out a little more, now would be the time to do so.
