Can forsythia bushes grow in Naples, Fla. ?
There are forsythia varieties that will grow in your area; however, it generally grows and blooms better where it has a fairly cold winter (Zones 4-8).
I live in middle TN and have 2 year old forsythia bushes about 4 feet tall. I was wondering if they can be transplanted to a different location? It is spring and they are no longer blooming~ just full of green leaves.
Yes, as long as they have finished their blooming this season, it should be fine to move them. However, you may want to prune them back some to help alleviate any shock associated with the move. Why are my Forsythias wilted, turning red and look like they are dying? I have 6 established new Forsythia plants from last year cuttings planted down my driveway. They get great sun and water. Four of them are doing great but two of them are wilted and the stem and leaves are turning red, then brown and dying. Anyone know why?
They do this when stressed, so it can be cause by several things.
If the whole plant is wilting at once, it could be a root rot. Some root rots are curable, others are not. Curable root rots can be addressed by treating the soil with a fungicide and making sure that the soil has good drainage. Incurable root rots, the best thing to do is pull the plants out ASAP before the rot spread to other plants.
If the plants seem to be wilting in sections, then it may be a fungus or a pest. Treat the plant with a fungicide and a pesticide to cover both possibilities. Neem oil is a good choice as it is both.
We used to be lucky to have someone attending to our garden but not anymore, so are having to do it ourselves. We have left things to get out of hand and now our forsythia hedge, lavender and rosemary bushes are going mad. I need to cut them back but also am worried about cutting back flowering elements as I want to encourage bees to the garden. Can I cut back now at the end of June?
