Do fig trees put on fruit "before" the leaves? If so do they ripen before the leaves?
Usually, they will leaf out first. Sometimes, unripened fruit will remain on the tree until next season, but these will not be worth consuming. It would be best to pluck these off to let the new fruit start to form.

I have a young fig tree in a large pot which is looking very healthy and growing quickly. It is has got quite tall but has lots of bushy side shoots at the bottom. I would like advice on how to prune this tree (if at all at this time of the year as I have never grown one before and was given the cutting in April 2016)and when should I plant it in the garden. Thank you.

What is the whit spots on my fig tree? Chicago hardy fig in a container.
What size container, and how long has it been in there? Do you fertilize regularly? A photo will help me to better help you.
I would recommend to put dolomitic lime, and wettable sulfur on top of the soil. This will keep the pH balanced, and keep any infections at bay. I would fertilize with a granular all purpose every few month. This will prevent many issues before they start, which is often more frequent in container.

Hello, I Planted a Chicago hardy fig tree two years ago in my yard. last year about ealy September we had maybe 15 figs we enjoyed 9 of them the raccoons enjoyed the rest lol:). anyway my questions is when does the fig start growing its leaves in zone 7a New Jersey its been a crazy spring one day its warm the next day its very cold. does the weather have anything to do with the growing of the leaves? Thank you, Stephen
Hard to give you a time, except when it warms enough to break it's dormancy.
It was certainly a strange long winter!
someone gave me some cuttings from a fig tree, but I don`t know what type is this fig. By looking at the leaves can you tell me if these fig cuttings are : caprifig (male never bear fruit) or common fig (female bearing fruit- with no need of pollination) Can you tell me which one it is? Thanks Frank
Thank you for your answer.
I`ll try to take a photo of a mature leaf.
Thanks again.
Frank
I'm sorry we can't identify the variety of your Fig Tree. A single fig variety can have a couple of different leaf patterns. The leaves can change to the shapes found in more mature trees as the tree gets older. It's easier to identify the variety if you have a ripe fig and a leaf.
Can figs cultivated from a fig tree whose some roots find a way to the sewers be good or unhealthy?
There is always some risk of infection from fecal bacteria. If you suspect that the roots have entered a sewage system then I would recommend avoiding the fruit. This is just a precaution to be on the safe side.
