Can you grow a hydrangea in a pot on the porch?
Yes, you can grow the shrub in a pot. Just be sure the container is large enough to accommodate the plant and provides adequate drainage. This article should also help: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/shrubs/hydrangea/growing-hydrangeas-hydrangea-care-guide.htm
I have two potted hydrangeas (pink) and have had difficulty with the blooms. Last year, both plants tried to bloom but the buds never developed correctly. A few sporatic flowers on each bud and the rest just seemed to turn pink and eventually dried up. This year, one of my plants made beautiful big blooms, and the other is doing the same thing as last year. It appeared as if it was going to produce lots of blooms but each bud just had two or three "flowers" and the rest just turned pink and never developed. What could be the cause of this? I do fertilize with Miracle Grow, and water every other day. Is this type of thing common with hydrangea? I have not found any other questions like mine online. Thanks for any help you have!
It is likely lacking a good phosphorus/nitrogen balance in the soil. Too much nitrogen or too little phosphorus will cause it to fail to bloom. This article will have some other suggestions as well: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/shrubs/hydrangea/hydrangea-not-blooming.htm

I have potted hydrangeas that are on a covered porch. Should they be watered during the winter? Should I encase them in plastic or wrap the containers? Thank you for you help.

You do need to protect them if you want them to survive the winter. Wrapping foam insulation around both pots and plants will help. 1.How long do we have to keep the hydrangea pot in a cold dark room before we take them out to the suitable atmosphere to get flower? 2. How long does the hydrangea pot get flower after taken out of the cold room?
The answer to the first question is that you remove them from dormant storage when all chance of frost has passed. Then you can take them outdoors. As far as how long it will take to flower, that is going to depend on so many factors - the variety and health of the plant, the amount of light, the size, whether and how hard it was pruned back, to name a few - that it's impossible to give a definitive answer. However, here are some articles that should help with getting the most out of your hydrangea: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/shrubs/hydrangea/growing-hydrangeas-hydrangea-care-guide.htm

How can I repot a one stem hydrangea, and when can I cut off the flower when it dries out? How can I trim it?
Is this an indoor plant? Are you keeping this as a potted shrub outdoors? Is your plant blooming now? Do you know the variety of hydrangea you have?
I have Anna Belle hydrangea that I cut in the fall when the blossoms feel papery to the touch. If you cut any sooner, they will not last.
