I have an indoor red bird that was grown from a cutting of my great grandmother's plant started 41 yrs ago. A recent interstate move with plants left in a cold car has frozen most of the leaves, but the stalks appear intact. Should I prune heavily and fertilize to nurse it back, or will it further shock the plant?
Cut back the damaged and dead stems.
Leave approx 8 to 12 inches of stem on the plant.
Keep watering to a minimum while the plant recovers.
Do not try to fertilize it into health.
You will need to wait and see if the plant can recover.

I have a bird of paradise plant (indoor plant) and would like to know if it's possible to split it so I can give it to a friend. Although there is no "trunk," it does appear that it has three main stems at the dirt level. Any information you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
You can divide your plant, but keep in mind that Bird Of Paradise prefer to be root bound and dividing will delay flowering.
When you do divide and repot do not use to large of a container for the divisions.

The bird of paradise tree is about 5 feet tall and is in a well lit sun room. When it produces new leaves, they only partially form, often splitting and only a portion of the leave unfurls, the rest remains in a tight coil. What is causing this?
There can be a few reasons for the leaf curl in your plant.
This article will help you pinpoint the issue.

I have a 10 foot tall white Bird of Paradise (indoor and pot planted). When the leaf shoots are emerging, should I help unroll them as they open? Some of the leaves are partially unrolled and the remainder of the leaf is still coiled.
Increase the amount of sunlight that your plants are receiving.

I have a huge problem and don't know what to do. I have a white Bird of Paradise in the foyer of my home near my front door. It gets light from my front glass door and windows from my kitchen nook. There is a new stalk or leaf that has grown out, but it's not opening up. I don't know what to do. HELP PLEASE! Thanks, Yolanda
Your plant needs a full sun location for at least 5 hours each day for it to grow and bloom.
I have 2 White Bird of Paradise plants that I had in my home. Some of the leaves would not open, so I placed both plants outside on my patio to get more sun. Before I placed the plants outside, some of the leaves were drooping, but now the leaves are not standing straight up, but they're drooping over even more. When I purchased the plants, I didn't repot them. Would that have anything to do with the leaves drooping? Thanks Yolanda
Drooping of leaves could be due to watering issues. Make sure the soil is moist but never soggy. Soggy soil can cause Phytophthora Root Rot.
The container should be well draining to prevent this fungus.
Repotting does not need to be done very often. Bird Of Paradise prefer to be in a tight container.
