I have a white bird of paradise growing in a pot in my house. I have had this plant for 20 years but it has grown too tall. How can I cut it to make it shorter. What tool do I use and how much can I take off the top of the plant?
Unfortunately this plant is going to be a tall variety. It would not be safe to cut anything at the crown of the plant, as this will kill it. The only thing you can do it take off a few leaves, or "branches" without taking too many at a time. Here is an article that will give you more information on proper pruning tips: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/flowers/bop/bird-of-paradise-pruning.htm
I have had this plant for 8 or 9 years with no blooms. We moved it in the house October 28th before the frost and it had a shoot on it. We have been watching it bloom for 4 days now and the transformation apparently is still not complete. I am in total awe of the beauty of this flower.
Yes, Bird of Paradise is extraordinary. They will continue to bloom prolifically with the right growing conditions. This article has some tips:
half. The plant had outgrown its original pot and self rooted going crazy and growing to a massive height. I transplanted it - with help from a friend, to a large pot so it basically has only got it's own bulb base. So after it got bent in half I cut all these now bent stems off which has left just the trunk which is about 7 ft tall and quite solid with a base of around 1 ft diameter. Can I cut this trunk further down to about 3ft or less (to almost its base)? I know they can be hardy and very sturdy but I don't want to lose it but I can't see the point of keeping a trunk when they usually send new growth from the base. It's spring here now so the summer heat hasn't arrived yet if I do need to be drastic with it. or by not having a secure root system and having just it's base is it doomed? BoP in both pics is the one on the left

Can I transplant 2 Bird of Paradise Plants, 16" tall, in a 9" dia. 9" tall pot? Or would it be better to leave or transplant into a larger pot?
That can be fine, but they like to be rootbound for quite some time before being transplanted, so when you get them there you may want to let them establish for awhile.

Bought it as a small plant or year ago. It is now 24 inches tall, with a new leaf that is going to be taller. Has been growing almost visibly every day. It is in a 10” pot in a south window, and I water it almost every day. This morning I noticed that the tallest leaves had begun to curl and there was yellow and black discoloration and dots at the top of the leaves. I also found that there were white deposits on the leaves that I could only see with a 20x loupe. I am going to wash the leaves off with soapy water. Should I try neem oil, or is it possible it has got too much sun or water? Will appreciate any help I can get.
This looks to be a case of overwatering! This will easily lead to infections such as this.
From here you will need to treat this with a mixture of 1/4 peroxide to 3/4 water. Water this in once a week for 2 weeks. The infected growth with not recover, but the new growth should come out clean after that.
Make sure to only water after the first 2 inches of soil are completely dry down to 2 or 3 inches before watering again. This will prevent infections in the future.

It is in a pot 22 inches by 22 inches, zone 6, lots of plants around for humidity and a south facing window. Never bloomed yet but has 7 crowns with at least 6 to 7 leaves in each. This has just started this last months. The other leaves are nice and large.
Can you post with a photo? This could be attributed to a few things, but a photo can help me to confirm it.

Hey, my girlfriend has a bird of paradise and wanted to know why the leaves were going a bit droopy. Over watering, under watering, not enough light, pot bound? Or does it look healthy (we are both newish to the green thumb) What do you guys think?
Your plant may not be getting enough sunlight. They need 6 hours a day which can be challenging indoors. You may need to supply artificial light.
