It has been on the porch in a pot. Can I cut it back and put it in the ground for the winter?
Coleus is grown as an annual in northern US. It will not survive winter outdoors. Consider trimming it (and taking cuttings to start new plants) and keeping it as a houseplant over winter. It is also easy to grow from seed but start 12 weeks before your frost-free date in spring. If you like coleus, enjoy browsing online seed catalogues. It comes in a large array of colors and leaf variations.
I recently planted coleus along a walkway in FL - within days, I see that the leaves are being eaten - holes in them. What can I do for this?
Look for snails or slugs in the dark night or early morning. If so use Sluggo snail bait (or get a duck :)

I made mistakes early on in the care of this plant but it has grown a lot in the past year. The growth is good at the top but not at the bottom, and so the branches are weighing the plant down. Please help me restore its health for longevity! thank you in advance.
It looks like it could use just a little bit more light. These Coleus will get a bit leggy when they need light. If full sunlight from a window is not enough, you may need to invest in an indoor plant light.
As for pruning. You can do this at any time indoors. It will recover just fine. They are very hardy, and the more you trim them, the bushier they get.

My coleus was only planted a few months ago and grew quickly and looked fantastic. It has almost overnight disintegrated Some of the stems have broken and it’s gone patchy and scrubby looking What the best way to rectify it please ?
Make sure you have been watering to keep soil moist; not dry or overly soggy.
Pinch back the stems to keep them from getting leggy.

They are beautiful and hearty where did they come from?
They reproduce by seed, and sometimes by roots left behind.
