My grandson found a small coconut on the ground near our home in Florida. It has already started to split on the top. I want to grow it for him if I can. We can hear the water inside the nut, which of course still has its green casing, although the top end has begun to turn brown. I have soaked the root end for a few days and am prepared to plant it in a pot according to your general instructions. Is it too late to sprout this in its present condition? Thank you.
If the coconut has already started to brown, there's a chance it's too late. But there's no reason not to try! The fact that the water's still inside is a very good sign. Just make sure to keep it nice and moist without letting it sit in water, and hope for the best!
trees are in open field
The tree is still very young. 5 years will be the earliest that you could potentially see a flower or two, but it will not likely yield anything. It can take up to twelve years to see a good crop, but you will likely see the first fruit before then.
Small trees around 10 years, tender coconut small fallen and not growing properly. I required information to avoid all the coconut trees problems
Some fruit drop is normal as it prepares to ripen what fruit it can handle on the tree. If this is excessive, then you may add wettable sulfur, dolomitic lime, and a fertilizer high in phosphorus and potassium. Here is an article to help you determine when they are ripe: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/edible/fruits/coconut/when-are-coconuts-ripe.htm
Hi there, I am seeking some kind help to tell me what disease or deficiency have my trees. I would like to understand what is bothering them, there are several online help, but I would really like to be sure of my identification. There is a few photos attached, all these coco are in my place and there seems to be difference issues between them, I would like to know which goes to which tree. 1) The High coco with long trunk is so small at the top, the leafs and head looks too small for the trunk. is it a sulfur deficiency? or a root rotting? 2) The second picture shows a more general issue with other palms on my land which may more be like a nutrient deficiency than a possible disease? Thank you so much in advance for helping out, or giving me some contact that can help! Your site is fantastic, please keep it going, its growing!
Have you been experiencing cooler than normal temperatures? This looks like cold damage, but if there has been no cool weather, then this may be a manganese deficiency. Manganese sulfate can help if this is the case. Do not confuse this with magnesium sulfate. These are not the same.

I planted a coconut in a patio pot, about 8 months ago, it seems to have a firm root system, as it is tight to the sandy soil. I noticed green leaves trying to sprout about 3 days ago. I see it through the crack in the hull at the top. will it make it through the hull or do I need to help it.
Just give it more time!

Looking at the photos attached could you please suggest which fertilizer to be used for trees?? Thank you!
The following article tells how and when to fertilize but we don't recommend specific brands. The article indicates what kind of fertilizer to use.
