When our coconut trees were trimmed quite a few coconuts fell into the pond near the building. If they aren't removed from the water will they eventually sink to the bottom? How long does that take? Thank you.
This might take a very long time. They float so that when they get carried away by the current they can rest on the shore at a new location to germinate. I would remove them if you don't want them to grow there.
I have a coconut I purchased. It is fairly good sized and has a smooth, firm shell. The inside can be heard when I shake it. Is this a good candidate for planting and growing?
Yes. Just be aware that this process is quite difficult, unless you live in the proper environment. This article will guide you on how to do this properly: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/edible/fruits/coconut/growing-coconut-palm-trees.htm
how to stop breaking of shoots caused by insects in young coconut trees?
I like using neem oil for such applications. As long as you use it OUT of direct light, then it doesn't cause any harm.
