I have the canna bulbs out of the ground and they are in a continuous section (kind of all connected) and there are string like roots coming from the entire section of plants. Should I cut off these roots so I clean away more of the dirt? Also, as I was cleaning away the old dirt, one of the plants root structures broke off from the entire plant section. Is this section still salvageable ( useful for replanting next year or will this not come back?
You should clean it lightly. Take off any smaller roots, and keep mass intact until it is time to plant. It is not necessary to wash them but you can knock off any loose dirt. Here is a guide to wintering These: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/bulbs/canna/storing-canna-bulbs.htm
I have a large canna with about 12 stalks that is in a large pot. I had it out doors but when it got cold I brought in in doors. Its still flowering ,do I need to cut it down and winterize it or can I just leave it indoors all winter and let it keep growing? will doing that still allow it to bloom in the spring when I split it and put it back outside in pots? thanks Russ
You can put them outside until the top of the plants start to die back naturally. After this, then you can cut them and winter them over.
This article will explain how to do this: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/bulbs/canna/storing-canna-bulbs.htm
I was just given many cana bulbs to plant in spring Thinking of putting them in a containe With dahlias? Will this work?
Canna bulbs and dahlias can indeed be grown in pots. See these articles for information:

To grow them together, just make sure the pot is large enough to accomodate the mature size of both plants, and they should do well.
My canna blooms yellow/orange flowers. When done blooming all new leaves turn brown from top down to stalk. What am I doing wrong?
Can you include photos? This would help me. If it is getting cold in your area, then this is the natural response of the plant. If not, I would look into a fungal issue.
This article will help with the care of these: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/bulbs/canna/canna-lily-care.htm
HOw do I store the lily plant after I have dug it out of it's garden home when temperatures are too cold for the plant? Thanks!
I'm confused whether you are asking about calla lilies or canna. Both have to be dug up in the fall, dried for several days then stored in a cool, dry place. Here is a reference for you. https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/bulbs/canna/storing-canna-bulbs.htm and https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/bulbs/calla-lily/calla-lily-winter-care.htm
Trying to start canna lilly seeds to germinate. Do I need a grow light?
First, you should understand that any resulting plant may not look like the parent plant. That's just the genetics of hybrids and cultivars. Whether a sunny window is adequate depends on where you live. The closer to the equator, the better the light. If you are in the northern half of the US, supplemental light is recommended. Seeds need special pretreatment to get them to germinate. Read about how to do this here: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/bulbs/canna/planting-canna-lily-seeds.htm
I have canna lilies in the backyard at my house in Texas that were here when I bought the house. We had a freeze this past winter and I did not replant them to bring inside. The leaves are all brown and dead, but they have started new growth in the past few days/weeks. Should I cut away all of the dead, brown leaves? Brown thumb, :(
Yes, cut away the brown leaves/stems. Canna has a big tuber that will have stored enough energy to send up a new plant. There are YouTube videos on how to divide Canna if you are interested. Now would be a perfect time.
