I have found what looks like large rust spots on the leaves of a young camellia. The plant is in a sunny area but shadowed by a seasonal bush.
It is likely a fungus, so you can go ahead and treat the plant with a fungicide if you like to try to start to get rid of the disease.
I have two beautiful camellia bushes, which have obviously been in this garden for many years and are well established, growing together. However, over the last few years the leaves have been covered in a black mold, which is really unsightly. I partially pruned them last year, but this year the problem is worse. Can I prune them very hard? Is this problem caused by scale insect?
These two problems frequently go hand in hand and scale causes sooty mold. If you treat the scale, the sooty mold will go away. These articles will help: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/plant-problems/pests/scale-bug-how-to-control-plant-scale.htm

I have a Camellia japonica and the buds on the plant start to form ok; however, they develop what appears to be some sort of disease as they are rotting from the center of the bud. It looks like they are being eaten by something. I have many camellias, and the rest are fine. It is only affecting this one plant every season. Can you please offer any advice?

I have a lovely pale pink-blooming camellia. Very shortly after the bloom forms, however, it turns brown. Is that sun scorch as well?

I recently bought one and would like to know how to encourage blooming.
Camellias usually grow best in partially shaded areas in well-drained soil. Blooming should take place in early spring depending on the plant's maturity and whether it receives the proper growing requirements. Although not always necessary, pruning can sometimes help. The camellia is in a very large tub which stands on bricks to allow air underneath. It was in bud just after Christmas and while we had the snow and frosts, it was situated up on decking (south facing). It has produced many blooms but these last ten days, the new buds are browning on the tips and then just dropping off. Also, the leaves are mottled with brown stains and are falling. Is this normal?
Did you fertilize it lately? These can be signs of over fertilization. It may also be caused by under-watering. Make sure the plant is getting enough water.
