In order for you to get Callicarpa to fruit, do you need a male species or are they 'asexual'. Do you need more than one plant?
They are asexual. You should only need the one tree to produce berries.
I have two callicarpa bushes which have become straggly. When I try to find out how to prune them I get a variety of answers from cutting back to almost base, leaving them alone, cutting out dead wood, minor trimming etc. Which is correct?

It has grown too close to garden edge I want to move it 2 to 3 feet back. Its in berry at moment J
The absolute best time to transplant your Callicarpa (beautyberry) is early in the spring once the soil is workable.
