How to Make Calla Lilies Bloom

I keep my calla lilies in the basement all winter. When warm in the spring, I plant them into the ground. I get beautiful green lush plants, but very few blooms. What am I missing?

Orange Calla Turned Purple

Why would orange calla suddenly turn purple? Transferred an orange calla bulb and it came up purple.

There would not be a reason that the bulbs change color. Perhaps it was a pot that contained multiple colored bulbs.

Calla Lillies

I wintered over calla lilies in their orig pot over the winter as directed. I now have a beautiful pot of leaves and not one single flower. What have I done wrong?

Lush leaves and no flowers usually indicates to much Nitrogen. You can add phosphorous.
Bone Meal is a great way to do this.

A very crowded pot could also need dividing. This can be done after they bloom, so let's get them flowering!

Moving Calla Lily

I have a yellow Calla Lily in the garden but as we are moving, can I dig it up and put it in a pot to transport it? I planted the Lily last year from an indoor pot to the garden.

Yes, you certainly can lift the plant and transport in a pot. Make sure you haven an adequate sized plant and keep the plant watered. It may have some signs of transplant stress but with water and time it should be just fine.

Calla Lily Color Change

My white calla lilies, from last year, produced yellow calla lilies this year. Is that possible? The white ones were planted along with a salmon colored one in the same pot last year. I removed them in fall, washed them, let them dry, and put them in in basement during winter. I live in zone 4. This year, I planted them and currently, I have 6 coming up in the same pot and they are all yellow.

I suspect the pot actually had several colors planted in it. These may have been dormant prior and now are growing.
I have had a few reports of this happening. It is common for garden centers to put 2,3 and 4 different colored bulbs in a pot.
It's a beautiful pot and appears very healthy.

Taking Care of a Potted Calla Lily

I received a potted calla lily for Mother’s Day. It had a couple of flowers then but it’s not made any new ones since. It’s still in the same small container. I live in WI so not a time to plant outdoors now. I’d prefer to keep it as a houseplant. What’s the best way to make it ‘blossom’ in the house?

Calla Lillies need plenty of sunlight, watering and fertilizing to bloom.
