Can I just cut back the leaves on calla lilies and leave the bulbs in the ground over the winter? I am in Halifax Nova Scotia. Thanks for the reply.
As the following article explains, calla lilies can only be left in the ground in warm gardening zones (8 and up) and should be dug up in colder climates. Halifax is in gardening zone 6, so calla lily bulbs left in the ground are at risk of being damaged or killed by frost. The article explains how to dig and store the bulbs:

There is a cluster of buds growing in the area of a spent bloom. What is this?
This is the calla lily seed pod, and the seeds in it are surely maturing now. Here is more about them:

How do I plant them? Do I let them dry out for the winter or do I plant them while they are still green? In the fall of the year for new growth to start for the spring?
Calla Lily rhizomes are generally planted in the spring after danger of frost has passed.

My Calla Lilies have one bloom left but it's not really a bloom. It is full of closely packed pieces of something, not sure what and quite heavy for the rest of the plant. What is it and what do I do with it? Thanks.
Your plant has produced a seed pod.
You can remove it or harvest the seeds.

I have been getting ready to winter over my calla lilies. I left them to dry and removed all of the dirt, but now all of the rhizomes have started to produce new sprouts. What do I do now? Thank you, Barb
