I have very small tubers which are generally growing well, some with many leaves and some with just one single large leaf. I did not de-eye my tubers as some suggest. They were started about four weeks ago inside with additional heat. I was wondering if I removed the large single leaf, would encourage more leaves to sprout?

My caladiums have been planted approximately a little over two weeks. When will they emerge?
I live in Rye, NY (zip code 10580). When is the best time to plant caladium bulbs, and how will I know what color they will be? Does lighting/soil affect the color variation? Thank you, Kelly Murdock

There is no way to tell the colors unless you know the color of the parent plants or you wait for them to bloom.
The soil and light should not affect the colors, but some varieties do shift color as they age.

I just planted over 75 caladiums bulbs (they are the small ones). I live in northern Florida and the weatheris 85 during the day and 65 at night. How long will it be before I see them sprouting?
While caladium bulbs require warm soil temps in order to sprout, this does not seem to be a problem for your location. On average, bulbs sprout within a week or two if they have been stored for any period of time, as dormancy is a natural part of their life cycle. The lesser storage time, the longer they take to sprout.

How deep do you plant caladium bulbs?
My caladiums have holes in the leaves. Could it be some sort of insect, and what can I do about it?
Are the whole leaves disappearing or falling off in addition to the holes in the leaves? Are the holes on the edges or in the center? Please let us know. This will help us identify your pest.
