Do I soak cabbage in salt water to kill any bugs or slugs that may be inside?
If you notice any signs of worms or insects, which sometimes appears in cabbage, soak the head in salt water or vinegar water for 15-20 minutes first

After harvesting the heads of cabbage what can I use the remaining leaves for.
I live in east Texas and have a small raised bed vegetable garden with some healthy cabbage plants. Lately I've noticed some bright yellow butterflies around the plants. Do they lay eggs on the cabbage leaves that turn into cabbage worms? I haven't seen any eggs or anything eating the leaves. Should I be concerned about these butterflies? I also have a young fig tree that has rust on the leaves. I've been treating it with Neem Oil to little avail. What is the best way to handle this? Marie Jordan
It is possible that the butterflies are laying eggs, and that they could potentially harm your plants. I have a recipe that I have developed to cure insect issues, fungal issues, and to correct any slight deficiencies, and pH issues all in one go. My recipe is as follows:
First, you will want to prime the soil with dolomitic lime, then spread wettable sulfur to Kill off any infection in the soil. I Also like to spray the plant itself. Mix a few drops of one or more of these ingredients into warm water with a spoonful of coconut oil: Rosemary oil, lavender oil, neem oil, garlic oil, cinnamon extract/oil and for really bad cases, also add clove oil.
Hi. I harvested some of my red cabbage plants today. I've noticed a lot of holes on the outer leaves for a month or so. Bought some garden spray and no luck. Today when I peeled back a few of the leaves I found a half dozen slugs. I tore off all the rest of the outer leaves that had holes and washed the cabbage head. There is still a really good sized head left, but I'm wondering if it's still safe to eat? Any advice appreciated! Thanks,Jacqui
Yes, I would wash the cabbage and then you are safe to eat it.

Are the huge leaves growing where I planted cabbage, my actual cabbage?
This is part of the cabbage plant, yes. What most people consider to be "cabbage" would be the tightly formed center mass of leaves that form much later. Your plant is still young, and has not had time to form fully yet. If has been too long, then you might consider if the plant is getting enough light. They are full sun, and will prefer to be in bright sunlight all day. Here is an article that will help: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/edible/vegetables/cabbage/growing-cabbage.htm
The growth heart of my cabbage seedlings are eaten off to the stem. Outer leaves are untouched. Bed is surrounded by rabbit fencing. Is it rodent or insect? Ruled out caterpillars. Set rat traps, undisturbed.
Can you include pictures? I'm likely to say insect, or maybe even infection. Is there any other symptom such as coloration, or anything else? There is also a possibility of birds, if the top is exposed.
