I have a boxwood that was planted about a year ago and just within the past 7-10 days it has diminished. I have one directly across the sidewalk from it that is doing great and was planted at the same time. What could be going on with it? Both are watered the same and I don't have any animals that would have peed on it and it's getting watered.
I would start with pulling back the mulch to check on the soils moisture level.
Poke down into the soil to see if the water is draining from around the roots of your shrubs.
Watering is crucial in the first year of a newly planted Boxwood, so that they become established.
Examine the shrub for any other signs of pests of disease.
Neem Oil is a good treatment for pests and can also help as fungicide.

Council sprayed poison on foot paths and all around village green. Now 47 of my box hedges have gone yellow, the grass and footpaths looked white, burnt appearance after spraying. This was August and still not fully recovered.
I'm sorry to hear about this unfortunate situation. Perhaps you can ask the council to tell you if they are going to spray next year so you can cover your plants. Also see these articles:

I live in Virginia. When is the best time to shear English boxwoods for my zone?
The best time to prune this plant is in early winter. See this article:
http://www.usna.usda.gov/Gardens/faqs/BoxwoodThinning.html
Does it benefit them to cover English boxwood dwarfs during sub-freezing 20 degree weather?
This plant is listed as hardy in USDA gardening zones 6-8 and marginally hardy in zone 5. That means it can tolerate temperatures down to -10 degrees F, or -20 degrees F with protection. Therefore 20 degree weather shouldn't be a problem for the shrub.
What would be the best time of year to plant Boxwood in low country SC?
The best time to plant Boxwood is late fall, late winter or the early part of spring. Try to avoid planting at the times of year when temperatures are extreme.
This gives the plants time to become established before temperatures drop or when temperatures began to rise.
If you plant Boxwood at warmer times of the year, you need to provide adequate moisture and stay attentive to the plants moisture. Boxwood are not tolerant of drought.
Avoid planting if the temperatures are still dropping below freezing.

I have this boxwood which has turned from green to a bronze/gold color about one year after planting it. It is now in its third season and remains the same color (bronze/gold). None of the leaves have fallen off. I don't see new growth. If you cut a stem, the cross section shows a healthy green color. The underside of the leaves are a pale green while the side exposed to sunlight is the "fancy bronze/gold." Does someone have an idea what has happened to the plant? Is it lacking something in the soil? What do you advise, outside of getting a new plant? Thanks for your comments. SG
