I bought to large braided bougainvillea toparies at a garden shop last spring. Well Before our first frost here in Centeal Texas I put the large potted plants in an outdoor shed for overwintering. I watered them every month or so. I pulled them out a couple of weeks ago and the plants look dead. The shaped ball on top is all brittle twigs. When scratching the plant skin to find life I have to go almost half way back down the braided stem. I paid $400.00 each for two of these. HELP!!! Please tell me there is still a rescue plan for these two!!
These have to remain growing during the winter. They will want to be treated like a houseplant, and will not tolerate a true dormancy. You will have to cut them back to the living growth and fertilize once they come back. This article will give you more information on how to winter these properly: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/vines/bougainvillea/bougainvillea-winter-care.htm
Need to fertilize bougainvilleas that are in a part shade area. What type of fertilizer should I use? Have Mericlegrow regular and acid liquid and regular shrub granuals.
Any all purpose slow release will be perfectly fine. This article is for container plants, but will apply no matter where they are: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/vines/bougainvillea/bougainvillea-in-containers.htm
I moved a couple bougainvilleas to a a different location they are not doing well, any suggestion please ?
What is your USDA zone? Also what what going on when you had to move them? Can you include photos? This can help me to see what is going on.
i was given 2 bougainvillia plants last autumn, they are in large pots and were utside all winter, in the mountains in central portugal, it was a mild winter, but there was some frost. they now have no leaves or new growth, will they recover and grow more leaves
Bougainvillea are cold sensitive. Temperatures of 32 - 40 degrees F will likely kill the plant.
If they are in containers they are more vulnerable to cold damage.

I have seen a picture of a Bougainvillea in a pot showing flowers cream and dusty pink in colour on the same plant. Can you tell me the name of this particular specie
I found a variety named Double Delight that is white and pink flowers.
My bougainvillea died and then came back to life. How can I get more sprouts to shoot from the trunk?
This article will refresh you on the care requirements.

I just got a small bougainvillia from the garden center and planted it in a pot outside. Twice when I have gently lifted a vine to look at it the vine broke off. Wondering why this plant is so fragile. Is it the way I am taking care of it?
Bougainvilleas are frequently grown in pots both to restrict their size and because they grow well as a bonsai. Bougainvillea bloom best in pots when their root system is restricted so re-potting is kept to a minimum. If you do need to re-pot your bougainvillea, you should gently break the pot from around the roots if at all possible to avoid disturbance. If this is not possible, use a pallet knife to ease the roots from the sides of the pot as opposed to simply ripping the plant out.
Bougainvillea roots are also extremely sensitive to too much water. Roots that sit in water, even for a short period, often develop root or stem rot and plant death.
Bougainvillea roots require phosphorus for proper growth and development; feeding the plant a high phosphorus fertilizer will help to keep the roots as strong as possible.
