As far as I can tell this problem developed very quickly in approximately one week's time. When I touch the white material on the leaves, it rubs off in powder form. Thanks for any help you can off. Email knoth@verizon.net
It is probably powdery mildew, a fungal disease.

Every year it flowers prolificly and the tree starts to lose its leaves, and over the next few months all the leaves will die and drop off and most of the blossoms with it. Then it shoots new leaves and is back to normal by Christmas. Can you tell me what is wrong with it? It has never been pruned and gets exactly the same attention as all the other avocados.
It may be a cultural issue or something associated with that particular variety, since you say they are all different. It may be leaf burn which can happen as a result of too much salt in the soil or irrigation not reaching far enough to the dripline. Or maybe that tree gets more sun than the others. The leaves would drop then return like yours do.

I live in a mobile home park and about 12 years ago my daughter planted an avocado tree that she had started from 4 different avocado trees. It has grown to over twenty feet tall and soon will be out of hand. It has numerous branches and off shoot branches from bottom to top. This year it produced a lot of fruit. I would say the base of the tree is 6 to 8 inches straight across. Is there any way that I can cut/trim it down and save it?
This is a difficult, and dangerous task without the proper tools and knowledge on how to make a tree fall in the direction that you intend to. It is not recommended to take on this job yourself.
I would call your local extension service, as they may have information on a certified arborist that can help.

This project has to be self-help I am able to get to the top of the tree. Is there a way I can start at the top? Bottom? Start trimming, cut the top off? How far down? Completely cut limbs off or trim them back? Have the tools and help. My most important question is just not cutting the tree down the end! but a way I can reduce it down in size. I can point you to sources that can help, but I do not recommend taking on such tasks without professional tree service guidance.

Unfortunately, if you can't see the pest, directly, then it may be difficult to pin down.
It could be a broad range of pests. These articles will help to get you started:

We planted an avocado seed around 5 years ago in a pot. I t is now around 1 - 1.5 metres high. But has produced no flowers yet. Will it ever ? and if yes, how long before it flowers ?
Your avocado tree should have flowered by now. Common problems are over-fertilizing and over-pruning. Here's a helpful article that may shed some light on the problem: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/edible/fruits/avocado/no-blooms-on-avocado-tree.htm
My avocado tree is almost one year old now and it is currently fall, the leaves lower down the plant have begun to develop dark yellow patches on the tips (especially), and all over. As well as that there are also tiny brown flecks across the whole leaf. There is no visible indication on the underside of the leaves. Any help on how I could save my avocado tree would be greatly appreciated!
Ah... Appears to be a bacterial infection. These are notoriously hard to cure, and they will almost always show back up later in life for trees such as this. This is especially true in container.
It is important to let your soil dry out pretty thoroughly down to about 3 inches if your container has drain holes, and almost completely dry to the bottom if it does not contain drain holes.
This will be your best defense. You will still have to correct the issue, though. A fungicide can help, as well as cutting heavily infected leaves once they are almost halfway consumed with the disease.
